Guidance, in a Good Way

Elevating California tribes and urban Indian communities’ response to the opioid crisis.

Elevating California tribes and urban Indian communities’ response to the opioid crisis.

What We Do

We offer a range of Native-centric resources and training opportunities to engage and provide culturally meaningful opioid and substance use services to Native people.

Fentanyl and other opioids are fueling the worst drug crisis in the history of the United States. California tribal and urban Indian communities are hit especially hard. Untreated opioid addiction strains family relationships, and puts added stress on the limited resources of tribal health care. The funding provided by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) supports KAI’s collaboration with the California Rural Indian Health Board (CRIHB), California Consortium for Urban Indian Health (CCUIH), University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and University of Southern California (USC) to provide Native-centric medication for addiction treatment (MAT) services. These services are a vital addition to California tribal and urban Indian health care services and greatly increases access to care for California Native people. Culture is a bridge to health—we work together with our partners to incorporate cultural healing practices into opioid and substance use treatment and recovery services.
